Friendly Neighbour

When the idea of Pakistan was conceived the aim was to provide equal opportunities to Muslims which, as a few propagated, was not possible in Hindu majority India. May be they were afraid of democracy in which majority has more say in administration of the nation. Although, a democratic government follows a constitution that is neutral and should have been sufficient to allay such fears.

Choosing a Muslim identity for the nation was fine as far as it was rooted to the land. But the leaders of this new state forgot basic principles of human attachment to one’s homeland and language. They illogically deviated its lineage towards west. It was not just difficult but has proved impossible for the people to alienate themselves from their environment and culture by following traditions and ethos of a foreign land. In the race to show oneself better Muslim, they have produced schism in the society, which was, supposedly, based on equality. Being both socially and religiously disoriented they have stumbled into personal ambitions and rigid regional stratification .

The spirited minds and sane voices have repeatedly attempted to rebuild the fragmented and denigrating society, only to get overwhelmed by shallow, short sighted, bigoted politicians and military commanders.

Instead of attaining the glory of protagonist in this world, perceived by the makers, it has become a sidekick, eager to please its boss with the tongue and its rear. When one boss discards it because of lack of reliability or dishonesty, it finds another, pretending to be smart one and making fool of everyone else. Its relationship mantra has been “use and throw” and it is treated likewise.

After every upset, rather than introspection, it has blamed some external force. The achievements which are few and far are taken as redemption due to its virtuosity.

It has even tried a hand at taking a lead of a small coterie formed on principles of common goals and beliefs. But, that too, soon ran aground due to its deceitful and greedy nature.

It is ambitious,  wanting to punch above its weight and for that it needs support. For this elusive support it has traded its Independence.

It has lost respect from everybody and it is rapidly reaching a stage where it’s own would hate to be associated. Even if a course correction is attempted, it is more likely to stay stagnant.

Because of its incorrigible attitude it has become a threat to itself and whole world.

When Pakistan decides to write it’s own history, it would not be able to do justice to its brilliant scholars, artists, scientists, doctors, social workers and sportsmen because of the fault of some of its leaders who did not believe in their own.

    2. Very good article. Citizens of each and every country have potential to make their country great however their leaders lead them to the path of devastation.
