Democracy

History is replete with examples of golden era under various rulers around the world, who were compassionate, intelligent, provided for their subjects and were not democratic. With numerous protests happening every day around the world against the democratically chosen dispensation, why do we still continue to believe in democracy? What does democracy provide to the neglected and downtrodden communities and individuals that they still continue to vote without any distinguishable difference in their lives for so long? A lot of had been written about the pitfalls of democracy to the term that  it has even been referred as “the worst form of government”.  Then why do we as common citizens yearn to establish it?  Firstly, the idea of a prosperous life in a kingdom is solely dependent upon the capability and intention of the king. With every successor of throne the fate of populace becomes uncertain. The economic strength of the country is also hostage to the policies ad...

Friendly Neighbour 2/2

Pakistan is a true friend.  It has always come up in support of its friends.  It has helped friends by handing over its land, military bases, ports, mineral wealth, whatever money is left (in terms of payment of interest on loans) and even women. It has forfeited the future of it’s own citizens for the higher aim. No other country could even imagine doing that.  Going out of the way, it has supported their belief, barring just two (Uighurs & Ahmadiyyas), throughout the world.  It has not shied away from damaging it’s own property to prove how much the injustice means to it. It has even motivated, trained and sent its citizens to fight wars all around the world for the sake of its faith. The reason for this altruistic approach is because of its magnanimous Leadership which truly believes in one world concept. Due to their unwavering guidance Pakistan doesn’t discriminate and believe in boundaries. It expect humans to be free to move across countries and cont...

Friendly Neighbour 2

Once upon a time there was a powerful emperor who had a large and prosperous kingdom. Yet he was not satisfied and continued to look for opportunities to expand his empire. There was a very small area adjacent to his kingdom which was ruled by another king. This small area struck out like a sore thumb in his vast territory. The emperor wanted to grab this neighbouring kingdom but the terrain separating the two was very treacherous. Any attempt to capture it forcefully would have resulted in large number of casualties. Thus he along with his military commander devised a plan. He sent an emissary requesting friendship of the king and invited him over. After a few days of luxurious stay and bestowing the king with expensive gifts, he escorted the king to the boundary of both kingdoms. Along the way he had a few cows placed in the fields.  Not only these cows were made of gold  but they also produced gold instead of milk. The king was immensely impressed and asked whether he...

Friendly Neighbour

When the idea of Pakistan was conceived the aim was to provide equal opportunities to Muslims which, as a few propagated, was not possible in Hindu majority India. May be they were afraid of democracy in which majority has more say in administration of the nation. Although, a democratic government follows a constitution that is neutral and should have been sufficient to allay such fears. Choosing a Muslim identity for the nation was fine as far as it was rooted to the land. But the leaders of this new state forgot basic principles of human attachment to one’s homeland and language. They illogically deviated its lineage towards west. It was not just difficult but has proved impossible for the people to alienate themselves from their environment and culture by following traditions and ethos of a foreign land. In the race to show oneself better Muslim, they have produced schism in the society, which was, supposedly, based on equality. Being both socially and religiously disoriented t...
